Star Profile: John Wayne

Published by kristin724 at 6:00 pm under Profiles Edit This

Name: John Wayne

Who else needs no introduction? The American staple is still oft imitated and iconic around the globe.  Is that hyperbole? Nope.

Top 3 Films:

The Searchers- Greatest film ever as far as I’m concerned.  Really, its that good and has only recently been fully appreciated.

Red River- Another one unlike the classics like Rio Bravo or The Shootist where Wayne isn’t playing the same old lawman.  Wayne is nearly evil, gray haired, and violent onscreen.  This early Howard Hawkes gem requires multiple viewings.

The Quiet Man- it is very horrible of me to admit, but everything I need to know about Ireland I learned from this film.  So many lovely touches between Wayne and oft co star Maureen O’Hara.

Our Favorite: Everyone has a personal Wayne favorite.  McKlintock!? Stagecoach? Donovan’s Reef? It bears repeating that The Searchers is the best ever, but I’ve also got a soft spot for Reap The Wild Wind. Go figure.
